IF WALLS COULD TALK – SONGS FOR MARY:
It’s no secret that I am obsessed with saving this historically significant home, this story is impossible not to love! I am so grateful to my colleagues for their love, support, and mentoring.
Cambridge Seven’s President, Gary Johnson Has This To Say…
- The Queen Anne style home in Pittsburgh, known as the National Negro Opera Company and the home of founder Mary Dawson, is important for its cultural, architectural, and social embodiment of the arts in Pittsburgh. Preservation of this home connects us to a time in America when the musical arts were admired but not available to all citizens equally due to racial divides. Restoration of the building will not change the history of the past or of the place, but it will allow us to remember the past with clarity. Conserving the past is but a window opening to our future.
- Architectural preservation is a moral obligation to remember the past while facing the future.
- Architectural preservation of historic properties, like the Mary Dawson house in Pittsburgh, connects us to the past and celebrates the optimism of the people and music that played in that place. It is a sacred duty to make sure those voices are heard, and the music is never silenced.
MUSIC: THE STORY BEHIND THE SONGS… WRITTEN TO SAVE A HOUSE.
The dynamic Laurel Redington Whitker from MVY Radio is a hero to all her fans, she has been helping me for many years, and it was an honor to be a guest on her show.
Here is Part 1 of the stories behind the songs on our soundtrack – Yes, all 15 songs were written to save a house and history!
FILMING – IF THE WALLS COULD TALK
Over My Shoulder Foundation will produce this film and will handle the fundraising. Dawn has been filming for 2 years in Boston. This spring, we get inside this historically significant property. Stay tuned for future updates to come! WE are determined to make sure history can not be changed or erased. WE are committed to great storytelling. WE need to preserve.
We need to complete the filming of this breathtaking restoration, we need to preserve this history. we are seeking creative design partners with a vision to help re-imagine the rooms in this home. There is something for everyone in this space you pick: Roberto Clemente, Lena Horne, Boxing legend Joe Lewis, Count Basie, Woogie Harris, and so many others await your talent and imagination!
Thank you for the endless amounts of love and support.
